Drawings are painted with hot wax using brushes. Melted wax penetrates in to the fabric and solidifies, preserving the design on the next step.
Waxed fabrics are rinsed in dye tanks. Depending on weather conditions and type of fabric, the process can be repeated from 1 to 5 times.
After obtaining the right colour, fabrics are boiled in cauldrons, thereby evaporating the wax and showing untouched work of art. The unique "Marble effect" in the picture appears due to the formation of cracks in the wax and the penetration of paint through them
Dried fabrics are then returned to the Galle district, to VAR VARA Fashion owned factory. There, professional seamstresses with more than 20 years of experience cut and sew fabrics into the final product - Kimono Robes.
